6 months of GAMEDEV
Over the past couple of months, I’ve been working hard on Hollow Survivors. In fact, I was focusing on it so hard, that I completely disregarded this newsletter… Looking back, it was a mistake, so here’s a summary of everything that happened since the last newsletter issue. Enjoy!
Publisher
As I’ve written in the previous issue, I signed with a publisher in October. Immediately, we started on a good note as, due to their efforts, a Japanese gaming site picked up Hollow Survivors. This resulted in over 150k views on Twitter and ~1000 wishlists!
New Floors
Up until this point, all of the combat floors looked like this:
Not very eye-catchy… is it?
So I added some trees and lights, and here’s what it looks like now:
On top of that, to make the game more visually diverse, I’ve added 2 new floor types.
The first one is filled with boiling hot (and dangerous) lava.
The second one is called “The Void“ and is very simple visually, as it’s almost entirely black. The twist here is that the Void acts as if it’s liquid, so each step/enemy attack causes ripples in the Void fabric.
New Weapons
Quickly slashing your enemies with the sword is fun… but swinging a massive greataxe and absolutely obliterating them is perhaps even more satisfying 😤. That’s how the idea for more weapons started in my head and it was finally time to execute on it. In total, I’ve added 3 new weapons:
Greataxe - slow, but huge damage
Bow - much safer, but slower than Sword and doesn’t deal as much damage as Greataxe.
Scythe - honestly, I’m not sure where exactly it fits into the picture. For now, it’s just an OP weapon that’s super fun to use.
This email is getting a bit long, so rather than working on it for the next couple of days, I’m gonna press send and start working on part 2. I’m hoping to get used to posting regularly this way. Big shoutout to Gui who messaged me about the email devlogs. It’s quite possible that this newsletter would never have materialized without you ♥️
Here you can wishlist the game if you haven’t already!
Take care,
Danny
